Interview & B-Roll Video Production
Authentic interviews paired with cinematic B-roll — the foundation of every great branded story. Whether it's a CEO message, customer testimonial, or documentary-style brand piece, we capture the moments and the visuals that make your message land.
Talking-head interviews and B-roll footage are the unglamorous backbone of branded video. Done well, they make every other piece of content stronger — case studies, recruitment films, conference recaps, brand docs. Done poorly, they're flat, forgettable, and skim-worthy.
We treat interview and B-roll capture as its own craft. Open-ended interview technique that draws out genuine moments. Cinematic B-roll that doesn't look like stock. Lighting and audio that respect the subject. The result: footage that feels human and lives in service of the story you're trying to tell.
What We Deliver
Single-day shoots or multi-location campaigns — we scope to fit the story.
- Documentary-style interviews — open-ended questioning, multi-camera coverage, broadcast-quality audio, lighting that flatters the subject
- Cinematic B-roll capture — professional crew, cinema cameras, drones, and specialty rigs to elevate B-roll beyond generic stock
- Location & set design — we scout, light, and dress locations so the visual context tells the story before anyone speaks
- Multi-format edits — hero piece + short-form social cuts + vertical mobile versions optimized for LinkedIn, Instagram, and email
- Transcripts & captions — ready-to-publish transcripts and closed captions for accessibility and SEO
Our Approach
Every interview is a chance to capture something specific. We plan the questions, the location, and the lighting before the subject sits down — and then we adapt in the moment.
Conversations, not interrogations
We prep subjects so they're comfortable, then conduct the interview as a conversation. The result is genuine, on-message, and watchable — not corporate-stiff.
B-roll that earns its place
We don't shoot generic. Every B-roll setup is tied to a moment in the interview — a hand gesture, a specific phrase, a process being described. The viewer sees what they hear.
Audio first
We invest in audio capture: dedicated boom + lavalier on every subject, professional sound engineers on every shoot, and post-production processing that makes voices clear without sounding processed.
Edit for emotional truth
Great interviews live or die in the edit. We pull the moments that carry meaning, cut away the qualifiers and hedges, and pair them with B-roll that amplifies rather than distracts.
What Our Clients Say
I found Black Box Productions on a whim, and their name caught my attention. I entrusted them with one of my most important clients. The team was incredibly responsive, completely on top of the ball, so patient with a tonne of changes, including increasing the scope from 2 videos to 6 — all within the same original timeframe. And the work itself is stellar. Gorgeous footage, fast and accurate editing.
Melissa ElliottBlackbox CommunicationsMy company worked with Josh and the Black Box team on a video project in Canada. Josh made the process so simple, making sure we had all the details in advance and helped us prepare the team with everything they would need to know before the video shoot. After completion they got us back a first draft just a few short days later. The video turned out great and our executive team was really happy.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between an interview shoot and a full case study?
An interview shoot is the production phase. A case study video is a packaged final product that often uses interview footage as its backbone. We can do either: a one-day interview capture for footage you'll edit elsewhere, or a full case study including narrative structure, motion graphics, and final deliverables.
How long does a typical interview shoot take?
Plan for half a day per subject (90-minute interview + 90-minute B-roll setup). A two-subject shoot fits comfortably in a single day. Multi-location or multi-day shoots get scoped individually.
Do you provide interview prep for executives?
Yes. We share question outlines in advance, advise on talking points, and run a brief on-camera warm-up before recording. The goal is comfort, not coaching — we want authentic moments, not memorized lines.
